Coronavirus: 5 Pakistani celebs who’re rising up to the challenge by helping the needy

The novel coronavirus has had a disastrous effect on the country’s economy and rendered many jobless around the world. As businesses shut down or force employees to go on unpaid leaves, thousands in Pakistan look to the affluent to provide them with food, water, and shelter.

Here is a list of Pakistanis who have risen to the challenge and gone personally to people’s houses to provide them with rations and basic food items so that they weather the coronavirus storm.

  1. Hira Mani

The ‘Mere Paas Tum Ho’ actress has been actively collecting food rations and ensuring trucks of food items reach people’s homes ever since the pandemic began. She has also taken to Instagram to urge others to donate generously to her cause and ensure the needy do not sleep hungry in Karachi.

2.Maya Ali

Another Pakistani actress who’s had quite the success on the silver screen and starred in the blockbuster ‘Teefa in Trouble’, Maya Ali has been distributing ration items to the needy’s doorsteps. She also frequently takes to Instagram to share pictures of food items being packed and delivered to the needy’s doorsteps and urges others to help her so that no one has to go home hungry.

3. Mani

Taking cue from his wife, Mani has also stepped up the efforts to distribute truckloads of food items to houses of the poor. He has hit out at his detractors and urged them to come forward and help the poor as well.

4. Shahid Afridi

The Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF) has already done a lot to provide the needy with healthcare and food. During the pandemic, SAF volunteers have taken to remote areas around the country, providing people with food, water and other necessary items so that they can get through the pandemic without going hungry.

5. Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain

Famous TV personality and politician Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain has also taken to the streets of Karachi to provide the poor with food and other items of necessary use. He’s criticised his own political party, the PTI, for not doing enough for the poor and questioned where the elected representatives of Karachi are at the time of crisis.
